Your health and safety information

 

Health, Safety ad Security in the workplace

 

On arrival your supervisor will explain the layout of the premises, identifying the toilets, kitchen facilities (if any) or any other drink making facilities and coat storage.

Attention should also be drawn to the fire alarm mechanisms; fire exits assembly point arrangements and first aid/accident reporting procedures.

 

While at work, all workers have a duty to:

 

  • take responsibility for the care of their own health and safety at work and of other persons who may be affected by their actions.
  • co-operate with the hirer or any other person with responsibility for workplace health and safety.
  • not intentionally or recklessly misuse any equipment provided for their health and safety.

 

Machinery, equipment and chemicals

 

If you are required to operate any machinery or equipment, you should first be shown the correct operational controls by the hirer or another experienced worker. Ideally there should be a written operating statement to which you can subsequently refer, if in doubt.

The hirer should also draw your attention to any special arrangements required or risks arising from the use of any chemical agents and substances.

 

Manual handling

 

You should not be asked to lift or carry items without proper instruction on the correct way to do this. If you are required to move heavy or bulky items, or carry items across or through awkward areas like steep winding staircases, ask the hirer for assistance  and instruction on how best to move items.

 

Pregnancy

 

If you are pregnant, tell us and your place of work as soon as possible. Both you and your place of work have responsibility to conduct risk assesment, to avoid any risks to yourself and your unborn child.

 

First Aid and Accidents

 

You must familiarise yourseld with the clients' facilities, please ask your supervisor.

The clients needs to ensure that you have access to first aid treatment facilities and are informed of the procedure in the case of any accident.

All accidents must be reported as soon as possible to your supervisor.

 

Fire & Assembly Point

 

Each client will have own fire procedures and designated assembly point which you should be informed of, including how to raise alarm if you discover a fire. It is your duty to familiariase yourself with the fire procedures and abide by them.

 

Security Procedures

 

Always report any persons acting suspicious or any suspicious items to your supervisor immediately.

Nothing can be removed from your workplace without authorisation.

Do not give any company property - for example, keys or equipment - to any other person except your supervisor.

Never leave any items of value in unsecured place and if during the course of your working day you find any items, you must pass it to your supervisor as soon as possible.
