NEST (National Employment Savings Trust) is a UK government-backed pension scheme designed to help people save for retirement. If you are enrolled, both you and the company contribute to your pension, along with tax relief from the government.
This guide explains how to:
Set up and log in to your NEST account
Access your pension online
Log in if you don’t have your NEST ID
Opt out of the scheme if you choose to do so
1. Accessing the NEST website
To manage your pension, visit the official NEST website:

From here, you can:
Set up your account
Log in
View and manage your pension
2. First-time login (account setup)
When you are enrolled, you will receive a welcome letter or email from NEST. This includes:
Your NEST ID
Instructions to activate your account
Step-by-step:
Step 1: Go to the login page
Click “Sign up”
Step 2: Enter your details
You will need:
Your NEST ID (if you don't have it, click "I don't know my Nest ID" and follow the instructions)
Your National Insurance number
Step 3: Add contact information
Confirm your email address
Provide a phone number
Step 4: Create login credentials
Choose a username
Create a password
Step 5: Security verification
You will receive a one-time code each time you log in
Once complete, you can log in anytime using your username, password, and verification code.
3. Opting out of the pension scheme
Important
You have 1 month to opt out from the date you are enrolled
If you opt out within this period, your contributions will be refunded
Option A: Opt out online (quickest method)
Visit the NEST opt-out page:
Enter:
Your NEST ID
Your National Insurance number
Follow the instructions to confirm your request

Log in to your NEST account
Go to your dashboard
Select the option to opt out
Follow the on-screen steps

Request an opt-out form from NEST
Complete the form
Return it to your employer
What happens if you opt out?
Your pension account will be closed (if you have no other NEST accounts)
Any contributions you’ve made will be refunded through payroll
Future contributions will stop
